Postcards from Buenos Aires

The streets of Buenos Aires

#TBT 2016 winter

Buenos Aires is as grand and sweeping a city as Paris, with magnificent avenidas and classical fin de siècle buildings, large squares and enormous public statuary and sculptures.

What charmed me were the smaller barrios and the quaint, old-fashioned little bars and bodegas we stepped into.

Virasoro Bar

Known for music and Malbec wine, our night about town was spent trawling the old neighborhood as we swung to jazz at Virasoro and drank many, many bottles of delicious Malbec. It would be a crime to sip on anything besides. We munched on empanadas and people-watched at this beautiful old bodega that looked like right out of a movie set.

Another bar was all wood and grungy, and something right out of ‘Romancing the Stone’. I half expected to walk into the Amazon when we left.

Argentina captured my heart with her warm people, her wild, wild spaces, and unrivalled beauty ( only Kashmir is more everything).

One day, I visited the famous necropolis but that’s another story!
