Note from Venice: it’s raining and raining although the sun is peeping out just a wee bit. I’m standing under the awning of a local cafe, debating on how to cross the piazza without getting drenched as I can’t wheel my bags and hold a brolly. And out of the blue, this smiling, shiny – faced little old man in a shabby houndstooth wool jacket, distinctly Asian, starts chatting with me, distracting me from the incessant rain. He ‘s so friendly and sweet, I find myself smiling back and replying, and feeling some sunshine on this grey day. His arms are full of groceries and his eyes are filled with childlike enthusiasm for life. He and his wife are on a road trip across Europe! They driven all of Italy and Holland, now France, Spain and Belgium before they fly back to Indonesia. And oh my, they are off the Vatican today, and then later this week to Lourdes. His wife comes out with bottles of water and smiles and chats with me too. They are so excited about their trip, three nights in Paris, then three in Barcelona and so on. And they waved and wished me a safe trip home, promising to say a prayer for me in the Vatican and in Lourdes. And now, the rain has stopped….. Is this called a breath of sunshine??? Sure feels like it!! Wishing you were with me right now, Alekhya Dossa Remedios
I made my taxi and didn’t get soaked. And now the sun is out with a rainbow over Venice. Ah, Belissima Venezia! Ciao!!
